Warmth in one part of your body usually indicates a local area of inflammation, due to occupational stress, sport injury or minor trauma.
Cause of Inflammation
Inflammation occurs when blood collects in a space to help heal and wall-off any injurious agents, like microorganisms or injured cells.
The usual resolution to inflammation is that your body effectively neutralizes and recycles old cells and foreign invaders, then deposits scar tissue in the area of the trauma or strain. This process can take up to a few weeks, and can be painful, as the increased fluidic pressure from the inflammation can push on pain-sensitive tissue.
The best at-home treatment for inflammation is cold.
